March 26th Call-In! Govern Wolf Must Release Vulnerable People

Call: 215-560-2640. This is the Governor's Southeast Regional Office, you should be able to speak directly with a staff person.

Today in the US, we have more prison beds than hospital beds. We already know that prisons and jails will be an epicenter of the Coronavirus pandemic--with cramped and unsanitary conditions put people at a much greater risk for catching and spreading the virus. An outbreak will be a catastrophe in Pennsylvania prisons and represents a massive threat to the health and safety of every person in the state, not just those who are currently incarcerated.

There are thousands of vulnerable people in Pennsylvania's prisons that are over the age of 60 of who have co-morbidities that make them more vulnerable to the effects of COVID-19. There are only 4 ventilators in the entire prison system. When people get sick and local hospitals are overburdened, the prisons will not have the capacity to care for them. What will Governor Wolf do to protect the lives of the more than 10,000 vulnerable people in Pennsylvania's prisons and surrounding communities? The Governor must explore emergency measures to release as many people as possible, especially those at heightened risk.

Here's a call script you can use:

"I'm calling to urge Governor Wolf to take immediate action to release all at-risk incarcerated people who are vulnerable to the Coronavirus, starting with elders and people who are immunosuppressed or have co-morbidities. They are at high risk of catching and spreading the virus, and the prisons do not have capacity to care for them. This is a human rights issue, and a public health issue. I ask that the Governor take action and release all vulnerable people now."

We want to thank Amistad Law Project, Abolitionist Law Center, and ACLU of PA for their leadership on this issue.
