Housing in Philadelphia was in crisis well before COVID. There are presently more than 65k families on the waiting list for affordable housing with PHA. The systems and institutions that are in place are failing us.
Landlords, lenders, construction firms, all see housing as a convenient way to make more money. COVID-19 has made clear many of the violences that lie within our housing system. Millions of people are presently facing eviction, winning a National Tenants Bill of Rights (NTBOR), written by us, is a critical stepping stone toward a Homes Guarantee.
This Fall, we will be given the chance to hear from tenants all around the city. We want to hear what the barriers to affordable housing really are. For so many of us, home means safety, home means healthcare, home means security. We are creating the conditions for a radical century of tenant organizing.
Join us at our August meeting to get updates on eviction defense, learn more about our fall canvassing for Tenants Bill of Rights and find out how you can get involved in the fight for housing justice!
