On January 5, our neighborhood experienced a devastating fire that claimed the lives of nine children and three adults. While we are grieving over this stunning loss of life, we know that we must join together in this moment to prevent more tragedies like this from occurring. Common narratives have attempted to place the blame for the fire on the victims, but the root causes of this tragedy extend much deeper.
On Wednesday, February 23 from 6-7:30 pm on Zoom, the Fairmount/Brewerytown neighborhood group and the Housing Taskforce will come together to process this tragedy in community with one another, learn about the housing injustice that allowed it to happen, and discuss how we can move forward in solidarity with those impacted.
