It's time to hold these elected officials accountable for their negligence and inaction during this pandemic!
Our city is experiencing another surge of COVID-19, and the impact is even more dire for people incarcerated in Philly's jails. Since the beginning of the pandemic, nearly 2,000 incarcerated people have tested positive for coronavirus. There is no publicly-available information on how many of those cases led to premature death and no information about how many total cases there are today. We can only expect case numbers to grow given the jails’ notoriously unsanitary and hazardous conditions.
To add to the horrifying conditions, there is a shortage of staff and ongoing abuse from correctional officers inside these jails. What we’re witnessing is a lack of urgency and complete negligence on the part of elected officials who have the power to release our people out of dangerous and inhumane confinement.
It's time to hold them all - Mayor Kenney, DA Krasner, and judges from the First Judicial District- accountable! Stay tuned for scripts you can use when making calls.
